About Wilder Girls

Eighteen months ago the Raxter school for girls was put in quarantine. When the Tox hit Hetty’s life was pulled out from under her. The Tox started off slow. First, it started off by killing the teachers one by one. When it starts infecting the girls it changes their bodies in weird ways. Now that they are left to fend for themselves after being cut off from the world on their island home they don’t dare try to leave. They are surrounded by woods that the Tox has only made more wild and dangerous. They keep waiting for the cure that they have been promised for a while. When Byatt goes missing Hetty will do what she can to find her. That means she’s willing to break quarantine and search beyond the fence. When she does do that she learns that there is more to their life at Raxter.

Wilder Girls

What I thought:

Wilder Girls was a very popular book right around the time that it came out. There is a very very good reason for that. I don’t know if I’m really a huge fan of the cover though. It’s not one that really stands out to me. On top of that, I do kind of feel like the cover doesn’t really give you any idea what the book is about. At least it doesn’t for me. For the most part, most books have a cover that gives you more of an idea of what it is about. So, I pretty much picked up Wilder Girls on hype alone and the popularity.

I’m so glad that I picked up this book though! Usually hyped books are not that great to me and I end up hating them. Not this one though. I know that some readers probably won’t want to read this book since COVID is still a big part of our world right now. Wilder Girls does deal with a pandemic but in a completely different way. It does have a cool twist to it though!

The girls in Wilder Girls are very well done and stand off the page. I really like Hetty’s character and I kept looking forward to seeing what was going to happen to her. I was completely invested in the story even though I didn’t want it to end. This is a solid four-star book for me. If you want to read more dystopian books then make sure to check out my list here.

Since Wilder Girls has horror elements to it then make sure to check out our YA horror list as well.
