Supernatural books that will make you watch your back

If you’re here then I’m assuming you love supernatural books! I don’t just mean books based on the supernatural series.

Some of the books I’m including are scary supernatural books, while others are more fantasy-based. Either way, all of these books have something supernatural about them one way or another.

Supernatural books have always been a staple in my life. I can’t even remember when I started watching them and reading them.

To be honest I don’t know if I really believe in it but I do love reading about it. It’s hard to imagine what’s really there in life after death. Is there really anything? Or are we just all fascinated with something that we don’t know much about except we all go through it.

Supernatural books

Supernatural book series

So I actually knew about the supernatural book series but what I didn’t know is that the books were actually different from some of the episodes in the seasons. Years ago I bought comic books for the show and realized that they were the same as a couple of episodes in season one.

Because of that, I figured the books were the same way.

Now that I know they are different I’m going to have to get them soon! Here are the supernatural books in order.

Nevermore

Nevermore is the first book in the series and I believe it takes place in the first season.

The sound of Nevermore actually sounds pretty good and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Here is what Nevermore is about.

Sam and Dean are in New York City to check out a local rocker haunted house. Before they can figure out why a banshee is in the house screaming his head off, a murder catches their attention. This murder catches their attention because it’s weird. Even weirder for New York.

Witch’s Canyon

Witch’s Canyon sounds really good too. This whole series is one that I really need to check out.

I have been a fan of the show for a long time so I kind of want to check out the books as well.

I am mostly curious if I will like the books as much as I did the show.

Here is what Witch’s Canyon is about.

Sam and Dean are on their way to the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, this is no vacation. Just beyond the canyon, there have been murders. That’s nothing new because murders happen all the time. The only reason this one stands out is that the murders happen every 40 years.

Right now not many people live around that area. But when a mega-mall is about to be built in that area that means new victims close by. Sam and Dean are determined to keep the locals safe.

Bone Key

You know I have gotten on haunted TikTok and there have been a few videos that have talked about how haunted areas of south Florida are.

The synopsis of Bone Key actually kind of reminded me of that.

I’m actually excited about reading this one because I love anything that deals with hauntings.

Here is what Bone Key is about.

In Bone Key, Sam and Dean are headed to Key West, Florida. It’s not only the home to hurricanes but to demons too. There are so many ghouls on the loose they are using it as a business and doing haunted tours.

When the ghost tour guide is found dead with pure fear on his face, no one knows what he really went through. But Sam and Dean are about to find out.

Heart of the Dragon

I’m going to give you an unpopular opinion. I’m really not a fan of Castiel.

There were more characters that I wished had a bigger appearance than him. I actually found his character to be really annoying and I wish they would have just killed him off.

I would have loved to see more of Kevin and Charlie. To me, they both had crappy ends.

Despite all of that here is what Heart of the Dragon is about.

Castiel gives Sam and Dean a heads up that there have been several brutal meetings in San Franciso’s Chinatown. They realize the Heart of the Dragon, a very ancient and strong evil, is back. Will they be able to save those around them?

The unholy cause

I’m not completely sure if there was an episode on this one but it does sound familiar.

Even if this one is based on one of the episodes I still want to read it.

It always feels like there aren’t many books that take place in Georgia. Since I’m from Georgia I do want to start reading more books that take place here.

For the most part, any book that takes place around this state usually takes place around the Atlanta area. I wish more books took place in south Georgia rather than north Georgia.

I get that a lot of people don’t know what’s down here but if they did they would probably stop making assumptions.

Here is what The Unholy Cause is about.

Back in April 1862 Confederate captain leads his charges across the Georgia battleground. Years later, in 2009, this same area has a civil war re-enactment. This particular re-enactment seems all too real though.

War of the Sons

supernatural books

War of the Sons seems like one of the slower books in the supernatural series. Because of that, I don’t know how I really feel about reading this one.

But who knows, you may actually enjoy it!

Here is what War of the Sons is about.

In this installment, Sam and Dean are on the hunt for Lucifer. They find themselves in South Dakota and meet up with Angel Don. Don has a proposition and sends them far away to uncover a secret Satan never wanted them to find out.

One Year Gone

supernatural books

This plot in the show was one of my favorites.

I wouldn’t say that this is my top three favorite plots in Supernatural but it is up there.

It was kind of cool seeing Sam being taken over by Lucifer and then losing his emotions.

The only thing is that this part of the show kind of made me mad. Dean deserved better and of course, he has to go and save his little brother again.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that he shouldn’t save his brother, but he deserved the life he wanted.

Here is what One Year Gone is about.

Dean thinks that Sam is in hell. He’s trying his best to not hunt and live a normal life with Lisa and Ben. For a while he does.

When he realizes that a spell could raise Lucifer and therefore Sam, he convinces his family to travel with him on vacation to Salem. Sam is a lot closer than Dean thinks but he’s determined to protect him from the Salem witches.

Coyote’s Kiss

supernatural books

Coyote’s Kiss is another one that seems oddly familiar.

I’m beginning to wonder if some of these are new concepts while others pretty much copy an episode.

To me, that’s a little bit aggravating because I thought most of these were new concepts that take place within a certain season.

Here is what Coyote’s Kiss is about.

A truck full of illegal Mexican immigrants is slaughtered by a supernatural force and they are found on the side of a road.

When Sam and Dean are trying to figure out what happened they are pushed into a dangerous would along the Mexican border.

If you’re interested in this book you can find them through the links below.

Night Terror

supernatural books

Night Terror is one that sounds really good.

I think this is a plot that we would all kind of worry about if it actually happened in real life.

Hopefully, things in Supernatural never end up being real. Otherwise, we are screwed!

Here is what Night Terror is about.

Bobby sends the boys to Clayton Falls, Colorado because they were alerted to strange happenings. Most of the things that are happening sound like things out of a nightmare.

Sam and Dean try to fight a series of nightmares. This only makes them realize that nightmares don’t go away, not even in the daytime.

Rite of Passage

This is another one that sounds kind of familiar.

Who knows maybe I’m just getting it confused with another episode that is kind of similar.

Here is what Rite of Passage is about.

Laurel Hill, New Jersey seems like one of the unluckiest places on earth right now. But Sam and Dean think it’s more than just bad luck.

With the help of Bobby Singer, they soon realize that a powerful Japanese demon is what’s causing the chaos. The demon has bigger plans and Sam and Dean need to create their own luck to defeat the demon.

Fresh Meat

supernatural books

I have been on horror TikTok for a while now.

Why exactly am I talking about horror TikTok? Well, there have been certain topics on that side of TikTok that kind of cover what this book is about.

I think a lot of people go missing in forests that people don’t even realize. It’s kind of scary to me, to be honest.

Here is what Fresh Meat is about.

Some of the strangest deaths happen in the Tahoe National Forest. So, this sends Sam, Dean, and Bobby to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to hunt for a monster with the taste of human flesh. Soon they are dealing with walking corpses with missing organs and attacks by a mysterious flying creature that leads them to a deadly foe that can take human form.

Carved in Flesh

supernatural books

Carved in Flesh is a cool concept to me.

To be honest it kind of reminds me of that kid’s movie called Frankenweenie. I enjoyed that so I may enjoy this as well.

Here is what Carved in Flesh is about.

There are rumors of a big black dog in Brennan, Ohio. Along with that, there are newly dead but desiccated bodies found that catch Sam and Dean’s attention. When they catch the dog they realize he’s a “frankenmut” and was at one point dead but then reanimated. This leads them on the trail of scientists that have something supernatural hiding behind them.

Cold Fire

So, Cold Fire is something I have a hard time with.

Hearing a baby cry is something else I have heard a lot about on TikTok. If you hear a baby cry at night then walk away.

I guess it is hard for me to wrap my mind around that because what if it really is a missing child? Someone could have picked the child up and dropped him or her off in a random location.

For the most part, people say that if you hear a baby crying at night where they typically won’t be then that is something supernatural.

Here is what Cold fire is about.

Dave Holcomb is a new homeowner in Braden Heights, Ohio. While he’s replacing sections of rotten wood on his fence, he hears a baby crying behind his shed so he has to investigate. Later his wife comes home only to find his eyeless body. Unfortunately, Dave is only the first of many victims.

Mythmaker

I love the idea of Mythmaker!

It kind of reminds me of the book Inkheart. The main difference is that the book deals with bringing things to life out of books and bringing characters to life while this one deals with bringing art to life.

What would we do if something like this were to actually happen?

Here is what Mythmaker is about.

Renee Mendez is a teenager living in a small town in Illinois. She is a very talented artist who loves to draw the strange beings that are in her dreams. What she doesn’t realize is that those beings come to life after she draws them.

If you’re interested in Mythmaker then you can find it through the links below.

The Usual Sacrifices

I don’t know how I feel about The Usual Sacrifices.

This one doesn’t really grab my attention like some of the other ones do.

It still has a cool concept and what kind of supernatural books list would this be if there aren’t any books that have some sort of sacrifices.

Here is what The Usual Sacrifices is about.

Sam and Dean are headed to Kentucky to figure out why some people are mysteriously disappearing. As they are researching they are told about a local folk tale about a cave. Unfortunately, that cave requires sacrifices in order for that town to stay prosperous.

Joyride

Joyride is another cool concept when it comes to the supernatural series.

Why would everyone fall asleep at the stroke of midnight? Why would they start acting differently after something like this happened?

Here is what Joyride is about.

In the small town of Missouri, everyone who is awake at the stroke of midnight suddenly falls asleep in the middle of what they were doing. When Sam and Dean investigate at first everything seems peaceful. But soon they discover a wave of strange behavior. Is this really something supernatural? Or is this small town getting restless.

Children of Anubis

I really wish that Garth had a bigger part in the show.

To me, I loved having the recurring characters show up frequently. The only thing is that a lot of the characters I really liked didn’t show up as frequently as some of the other characters.

Here is what Children of Anubis are about.

This time Sam and Dean are traveling to Indiana. They are headed there to investigate a murder they think to be the work of a werewolf. But they soon realize that the place isn’t just the home of werewolves but jakkals also. Jakkals worship the god Anubis.

Anubis is a God who hates werewolves. With the help of Garth, they must stop the war between the werewolves and the Jakkals, especially before they wake up Anubis.

Supernatural books aren’t just for adults. So, here are some supernatural books for young adults that even some adults will enjoy as well.

Beautiful Creatures

supernatural books

It has been a while since the movie Beautiful Creatures came out.

To be honest I don’t think I even knew that it was based on a book until recently anyways.

I do remember really enjoying the movie so now I really want to read the book.

Here is where Beautiful Creatures is about.

Lena Duchannes isn’t anything like the people in Gatlin. She is really struggling to hold back her power. What she doesn’t realize is that her secrets can’t stay a secret forever.

The Ghost of Gray Fable

supernatural books

The Ghost of Gray Fable is a plot that I never even really thought about.

To be honest I’m kind of surprised that no one else has thought to write something like this.

Maybe they have and I just haven’t realized it.

I do want to get to this one soon.

Here is what The Ghosts of Gray Fable is about.

Gray Fable is not happy at all about transferring to Willbrook in the fall. For as long as she can remember she’s been able to see ghosts. But now she’s about to go to a school that had a school shooting five years prior. She’s not scared of coming face to face with a live shooter but a dead one.

Undeadly

supernatural books

Undeadly is another cool concept that I wouldn’t really mind checking out.

I mean come on what kind of supernatural books list would this be if we didn’t have a character that was able to raise zombies.

To me, that is a really cool concept because I don’t recall anything that covers something like this.

Here is what Undeadly is about.

Molly Bartolucci wants to blend it. She wants to date a cute guy named Rick and keep her zombie-raising abilities on the down low. When the god Anubis chooses her to become a reaper she accidentally undoes the work of another reaper. Within days she’s shipped off to Nekyia Academy which trains people like her. When she finds her grove there she realizes that something off is happening.

Horrid

supernatural books

This list of supernatural books would be seriously lacking if I didn’t add a haunted house book.

Horrid is a book that I bought a while back and have been meaning to read.

It is one I want to try and get to soon because I love the sound of it. The cover is creepy and the plot is pretty creepy as well.

Here is what Horrid is about.

All they want is a new start, but behind the home, they moved into lurks a history that makes them feel more alone than anything. Dead Until Dark

If you didn’t know these books are what True Blood was based off of.

If you’re a fan of True Blood then I really suggest reading this series.

I have actually read the first book of the Sookie Stackhouse series and then it kind of tapered off there. I’m not even sure why because I actually really enjoyed that first book.

Here is what Dead Until Dark is about.

Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-town waitress in Louisiana. That is until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life. Then one of her co-workers dies.

Maybe having a vampire as a boyfriend isn’t a good idea.

The Devil Makes Three

supernatural books

After doing some research for this list of supernatural books I discovered The Devil Makes Three.

This is one that I really want to get my hands on soon.

I love books that are like this and in some way deal with possession or at least the summoning of a demon.

Here is what The Devil Makes Three is about.

There are only three things that Tess Matheson wants. Those three things are a time to practice her Cello, for her sister to be happy, and for everyone else to leave her alone.

Instead, she finds herself working at her boarding school’s library. The worst of it is Eliot Birch who is snide and privileged. On top of that, he keeps asking for forbidden grimoires. So after a bargain to get him to leave her alone, they wind up finding an ancient grimoire that winds up summoning a demon.

How do a couple of regular people send the demon back?
