Horror Movies on Disney Plus to watch with the family

Hey everyone and welcome to Owl Book World! Today I wanted to talk about horror movies on Disney Plus.

Honestly, I think a lot of us don’t really think about Disney really having horror movies. At least we don’t think about them having the type of horror movie that comes to mind when we as adults think of horror.

Most of us think about horror movies being really scary, creepy, or gory. They have a combination of those three things. To adults, I don’t think horror movies on Disney Plus would really be scary or creepy. They are definitely not going to be gory.

But just because these scary movies on Disney Plus aren’t exactly scary they are still really good to watch for kids or those who get scared easily. Most of them might bring some nostalgia if you grew up being a Disney kid.

Some of you have probably seen these movies before but probably don’t think about watching them with your kids in the month of October. Some are okay for younger children while there are others that are a little bit better for older kids.

Horror Movies on Disney Plus

I know some of you are probably wondering if it’s a good idea to let your kids watch something scary. This has always been something that so many people have debated. But I think some kids are ready for these sorts of movies at a younger age. I know I was with some of them.

Here are some of the best horror movies on Disney Plus that you should really watch whether in October or even year-round.

Hocus Pocus

Horror movies on Disney Plus

I know most of you have probably heard of Hocus Pocus. I mean who hasn’t heard of the movie? If you haven’t then you must be living under a rock.

It’s understandable if it’s a movie that you haven’t really watched yet though. Either you were born long before it was released or you were born long after it was released. So, I know this movie can be pretty hit or miss for those that may have missed the mark.

So, if you’re one of those people that still haven’t seen it then it might be a good idea to go ahead and watch that now with your kids. To be honest I actually just watched this movie with my three-year son earlier this month. Granted at first he wasn’t sure what to think about it but after watching a little bit of it he ended up really liking it.

The funny thing is that Hocus Pocus really didn’t do all that well when it came out. I’m pretty sure it was a huge bust but started gaining a cult following years later. I always think it’s crazy when movies do this and how it gains traction sometime after it came out.

Hocus Pocus has always been a great family-friendly horror movie.

Zombies

So, Zombies was actually after my time. I use to love watching the Disney channel original movies. By the time Zombies came out, I was kind of over it.

This was the time that the Disney Channel was really pushing out musicals. To be honest I have never really been a fan of musicals. I always get bored with them and then immediately change the channel.

If you’re a fan of musicals then you might actually like this one. I know this would be a good one to watch with your kids that are a little bit closer to their preteen age. I think kids that are younger would probably get bored with it as well.

If you have seen this one then let me know in the comments what you thought of it!

The Black Cauldron

The Black Cauldron is one movie that I actually have not watched. Actually, I knew nothing about this movie until I started doing some research on if there are any horror movies on Disney Plus at all.

A lot of these movies are ones I’m not really sure if I would consider horror but I guess they would technically be horror movies for kids. Looking at pictures for this it does seem familiar so maybe I did watch this movie and blocked it out. I have heard a lot of people saying that this movie traumatized them when they were kids though. If you have seen this one then was it really that scary?

This is another one that I’m actually going to try watching soon. Hopefully, this will be a movie that my son will actually sit down and watch with us as well.

Halloween Town

Halloween Town is that one Disney Original movie that I grew up with and loved it. I absolutely adored this movie and it was probably one of the reasons I actually wanted to be a witch at that age.

This is one movie that kind of sparked my imagination and made me love the idea of a town full of Halloween characters. This is a great movie for kids of all ages, that is unless your kid scares pretty easily and doesn’t like the idea of scary monsters.

The movie follows a teenage girl who really wants to go trick or treating but her mom won’t let her. She doesn’t like the idea of Halloween or trick or treating. When her grandma shows up she decides to follow her when she leaves. This only leads her to find out that her whole family is full of witches and there is a town full of monsters.

I don’t know how I would feel if I knew that my family was keeping something like this from me.

Frankeweenie

Frankeweenie may be one that you need to reserve for older kids rather than younger ones. This one follows a kid who considers himself a scientist. He’s really smart so he has the right to consider himself a scientist. Probably too smart for his own good. When his dog dies he’s going to do everything he can to bring him back to life. When he does accomplish that he makes sure he keeps his dog hidden. Otherwise, things may turn out completely wrong.

Some of the younger kids may actually be able to handle this one but definitely go in it with caution.

Frankeweenie is a great horror movie on Disney Plus to watch as a family. Granted this would be great for adults alone as well even though it’s not completely aimed toward them. If you’re a big scary movie fan though don’t go in thinking that it’s going to be super scary.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

So, is this movie actually a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? For a few years now this is something that I have kind of wondered about. It actually starts on Halloween and ends on Christmas.

I think a lot of other people debate this as well. Since I can’t really figure out where to actually put it I do have a tendency to watch it around the month of October and December.

If you haven’t heard of The Nightmare Before Christmas then you have probably been living under a rock as well. This movie has been out for what feels like ages and it has only grown in popularity.

This is one movie I would probably enter with caution. Even though it is a kid’s movie some of the younger ones might find it a little bit scary. Then again some of them might actually be ready for it.

Don’t Look Under the Bed

I don’t know if I actually watched Don’t Look Under the Bed. This is one that seems like one of the scariest Disney movies.

This might be one that I actually try watching soon since I don’t really remember watching it at all. This movie follows a girl who gets an imaginary friend to help her get rid of the boogeyman. This boogeyman is doing pranks on people around her and she keeps getting blamed for it. Can they get him to stop?

The storyline to this one has a really cool concept and I know I’m going to have to try and rewatch it. I know I said rewatch because I’m almost positive I have watched this movie and I just don’t really remember it. Hopefully, when I do rewatch it I will like it.

Mom’s got a Date with a Vampire

Ya know I had actually forgotten about this movie when I started doing research for this. Even though this was a movie I actually really liked I do feel like it was a little bit forgettable.

Mom’s got a Date with a Vampire actually kind of reminds a little bit of The Lost Boys. They both have similarities but that’s about where it ends. This movie is basically a friendlier version of that movie.

If you enjoy movies about vampires then I suggest watching this one because it really is a good movie. It has a cool concept and really keeps you interested.

Mom’s got a Date with a Vampire is one of those horror movies on Disney Plus that I actually need to try watching again. I’m just hoping that it isn’t cheesy since I’ll be watching it again as an adult.

The Haunted Mansion

Horror Movies on Disney Plus

The Haunted Mansion is actually a really great Horror movie on Disney Plus. This is more of a silly movie than a horror movie so don’t think it’s going to be super scary for the younger kids.

This is actually a great movie to watch with your kids and when they get old enough you can take them on the ride at Disney.

The Haunted Mansion follows a power couple who sell houses. They are great at what they do but there are times when they don’t how to sit back and relax. When they try to go on vacation they get a phone call about someone trying to sell their home. With them being the people that they are they go to the house to meet up with the owner.

When they get there the house is actually kind of creepy and the owner is even more strange.

This movie is definitely worth watching if you enjoy some similar scary movies.
